Survival Mind: Discover your inner expedition leader with Caroline Serré
In the most extreme conditions, leadership and humanity become one. Where the cold cuts, time is short and every decision counts, you discover who you really are. In this masterclass we take you into the Survival Mind: the ability to stay clear-headed under pressure, not to give up, and to trust your inner compass, even when you are literally or figuratively lost.
This day offers a unique combination of in-depth reflection and concrete leadership training. Executive coach Caroline Serré connects the experiences and insights of Bernice Notenboom with the day-to-day practice of leaders and professionals. She translates them to your reality: What happens to our brain and body when we suddenly face unprecedented risks? How do you stay calm and think clearly when panic threatens? Which patterns help you, and which don't? How do you hold your course when circumstances, expectations and responsibility come together?
The collaboration between Caroline and Bernice creates an inspiring dialogue between two worlds: the harsh reality outside, where every choice counts, and the inner wisdom within, which helps leaders act clearly and courageously.
Why Survival Mind?
The challenges faced by leaders with great responsibility are surprisingly similar to those of expedition leaders. High pressure, unpredictability, scarce resources, moral dilemmas and the awareness that your choices have a big impact. These worlds are closer together than you think.
Bernice's experiences – from avalanches on Mount Everest to encounters with bears, getting lost in polar storms and the brave decision to turn back on Denali with the summit in sight – hold up a powerful mirror. You really don't need to climb Everest to learn how our mind can suddenly be switched on to act effectively and intelligently, even when this goes against your emotions. Caroline helps you translate these lessons to your own leadership situations, so that you are not only inspired but also break out of well-worn paths, examine your habits and practise new behaviour.
Surviving extreme situations takes more than technique: it takes mental strength. Getting your head in the game within three seconds. Talking to yourself out loud to stop panic. Letting go of what you cannot change. Choosing connection over brute force. Truly feeling when turning back is the only right decision. These are exactly the skills modern leaders need to hold their course in complex, demanding work environments, and Caroline guides you in making them your own. Don't expect an ordinary masterclass, but a discovery of yourself at the edge of what is possible.
